In a wonderful turn of events, it looks like your AI use is totally fine ethically, because you’re already so smart that when you use it to write a paragraph for you, it doesn’t even count, because you could have written it on your own, you just didn’t, because it would’ve taken too much time and effort, even though what you’re paid to do is to write that brief, but it’s something you’ve done so many times now that it’s totally okay for you to cheat it every now and again. It’s not like you’re cheating it every time. Just every time this month.
Fortunately, this couldn’t be further from how everyone else uses AI. They’re totally dependent on it. They need it to write their emails—you’re using it to write your emails because emails are dumb and impersonal anyway.
Really, you just use AI as a glorified search engine, asking it questions about taxes and directions and legal contracts. Only occasionally do you prompt it to recommend you movies, music, or recipes, the real substantive elements of life, things you used to take great joy in discovering for yourself, but again, you do this quite rarely, at max two or three times a day. There are people chatting with it 24/7! There are people who think it’s God! That’s not you. That’s not you at all.
Besides, it’s not actually even using that much water, it’s energy that it’s really draining, but nobody is really talking about that, so you can feel good about the water thing, too. You’re informed, which makes it okay. A lot of people aren’t informed! A lot of people can’t even tell the difference between an AI-generated video and a real one! But you? You almost always can.
