I Don’t Have Much In The Way Of Friends Or Family, But I Like To Think That I Am Rich In Money

It’s no secret that life isn’t always fair. Some people are blessed to live among those who care about them and enjoy their company, while others like myself are not so fortunate. That’s just the luck of the draw. Still, even though I admittedly don’t have much in the way of family or friends, I do like to think that I’m rich in money.

Sure, when you narrowly judge life as nothing more than the sum of the people you love and the unforgettable times you’ve spent together, I may come up a little shorter than most. But I choose to look at things just a bit differently. I have a mansion. I have a fleet of luxury cars. I have designer clothes and beautiful jewelry. In these ways, I like to think that I, too, have a certain sort of wealth.

I could spend my life chasing after emotional connection, sacrificing overtime bonuses and weekends at work to spend time with the family that raised me. I could put in hour after hour working on my personality and social skills until I was someone people actually wanted to be around, and probably kill myself in the process. I could completely lose my identity obsessing about every little person I’ve alienated or betrayed with my selfish actions. But what good are people to share your life with if you don’t have a mansion to put them in? In the end, I choose to focus on what I already have: The private jet. The vacation homes. The personal chef and the live-in maid service. While these things may not meet your personal definition of “wealth,” they meet mine.

I have a mansion. I have a fleet of luxury cars. I have designer clothes and beautiful jewelry. In these ways, I like to think that I, too, have a certain sort of wealth.

Not everyone gets to watch the sun rise from the top of a mountain with the one they love most by their side or to spend a lazy day in, basking in the company of the person who makes even the mundane feel extraordinary. Some people out there are so rich in love that even if they had a falling out with a friend or two, they’d still have plenty more friends left over to care for and support them. I don’t have that luxury, and I never will. Here’s what I do have, though: a massive amount of property, an impressive stock portfolio, and an enormous yacht to sail around the world.

That’s more than enough consolation for me.

You may never think of me as “rich,” and that’s okay; you don’t have to. To me, life is about more than friends and family. It’s about fat paychecks, material possessions, and Swiss tax havens. And no matter what, I know in my heart that when it comes down to money, I’m the wealthiest woman alive.
